How to operate FreshSentry Pool water treatment system:
Operating FreshSentry pool system is rather simple. There is three phases of operation.
1. preparation of pool water.
The pool has to be cleaned by vacumn hose. Normally, pool shocker is applied to the pool. After a few hours or over night of waiting, water becomes clear and vacumn is needed to clean the bottom of the pool.
Depands on the model of your FreshSentry, the electrode chamber should be properly in place according to the manual of FreshSentry. The control unit is powered up and connected to the electrode chamber with pool water pump running.
2. initial startup phase.
For a new pool or re-opened pool in the spring, an initial startup procedure is needed for starting up the pool to a normal operating condition.
First, we need to ionize the pool. Set the ionization switch of the control unit to "Manual" and power up the unit. The hardness meter will show the current water hardness. If you had not added calcium to the pool before, the hardness would be very low by reading the hardness meter. Calcium(e.g. Hardness plus) should be gradually added to the pool to bring up the hardness level until meter show 0.4A reading, which is corresponding to 400ppm hardness.
Next, with correct hardness level, run "manual" ionization mode continously for 24 hours a day for 2-3 days depands on your pool size. The purpose is to bring up copper ion level to about 0.3-0.4ppm. The resulting copper level can be tested using LAMOTTE Water Testing Kit . You may want "ionize" it more days, if copper level has not yet reached to desired level: 0.3-0.4ppm.
3. Normal operation mode
Once the copper has reached to desired level, we can switch the ionization to "auto" mode. In this mode, FreshSentry will automatically run oxidization and ionization for the pool and keep the pool sanitized. Ideally, the pool should be running at this mode to maintain fresh and clean water for long time. Hardness meter is showing water hardness while oxidizing. The actually meter reading could be a little different that "manual" mode.
4. adjustment and maintaince
FreshSentry should be able to sanitize the pool automatically fo rlong time. However, most of the pools are outdoor. It subjects to wind and rainfall interference. Mother nature may bring waterto the pool will dilute the calcium level, therefore water hardness need to be monitored and adjusted to desired level. Rain may also bring phosphate to the pool. It is the "food" for algae. Therefore, sometimes after storm, algae may grow rapidly and turn the pool green. In this case, a small dose of shocker is needed to help kill the algae and need to be vacummed later.
the copper electrode will gets consumed as time goes by. Normally, it may last 3-5year depands on the usage of the pool. Upon its finish, copper electrode shall be replaced.
